Eib Investment Good News For Mauritius Tourism

The tourist trade in Mauritius is smiling these days with the announcement that the European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing some €30 million in loans to aid the island nation's private sector businesses. The financing will go directly to the State Bank of Mauritius who will then turn around and make long-term loans directly to small and mid-sized companies. In addition, the EIB will be providing technical assistance to help the Mauritian bank streamline its lending process.

While all of Mauritius' economy stands to benefit from the new financing, the tourism industry welcomes the news even as new tourist attractions and resorts are being developed. And although the faltering worldwide economy has put a dent in Indian Ocean tourism over the last few seasons, the number of visitors to Mauritius is up significantly this year. Some of the more optimistic forecasts suggest that by next season the island may even be able to come close to the record numbers of 2005. If so, there needs to be a lot of new development between now and then.

The EIB has been providing funding in Mauritius for more than 35 years. Since 1975 they have helped develop more than 38 projects in the tourism, transportation, and energy sectors, as well as others. Their involvement specifically in tourism-based businesses has played a major role in helping make Mauritius one of the favourite destinations for Europeans.

Travellers from France and the UK make up the bulk of annual arrivals on the island, taking advantage of all inclusive Mauritius holidays offered by luxury resorts and tour operators. Many of the resorts offer the chance to be treated like royalty for a few weeks with such amenities as butler service, full-service spas, and splendid accommodations. And the weather isn't bad either.

In fact, the Indian Ocean region has what many travel experts classify as the closest thing to perfect weather as possible. The native Mauritian people even have a traditional saying that claims their land was created first, while heaven followed in second place. One trip to Mauritius and you'll know why they say that.

Miles of white sand beach look out on peaceful lagoons and pristine coral reefs. If you're lucky enough to have a suite build out on the water, you'll be treated to daily views that are so beautiful you'll pinch yourself to make sure you're not dreaming. You'll also enjoy bright blue skies, perfect temperatures, and palm groves like you've only seen on postcards.

Mauritius' two UNESCO World Heritage Sites include a spectacular nature reserve where you'll be amazed by the native flora and fauna, as well as the wildlife. If you prefer the marine environment, you'll love the extensive selection of water-based activities like diving, fishing, glass bottom boat tours, and island hopping. Mauritius offers the perfect combination of water and land to make your stay everything you imagined it could be.
