Mauritius Getting Ready For Annual Kiteival
For one week every summer kite surfers gather in Mauritius to experience some of the best kiting anywhere in the world. This year the fifth annual Kiteival is slated to run from August 11th through 19th, 2012 at multiple locations around the island. LUX resorts, one of the islands best options for Mauritius luxury hotels , is partnering with Kiteival 2012 as the event's main sponsor.
Kiteival takes place every day at different venues simultaneously. This enables kite surfers to travel from one site to the next to experience the unique features of each one. According to promoters this is a great way to "maximize the fun factor" as participants follow the winds from one location to the next. In addition to visiting riders, local kite surfers will be escorting their guests around the island along with a safety boat and a legion of photographers. The course for any given day will be determined by wind and water conditions.
All levels of kite surfers are welcome to take part in the event. Every year a handful of professionals are invited to join amateurs as a means of allowing guests to rub shoulders with the pros. Kiteival officials have not yet said specifically which pros will be attending except for world champion Susi Mai who will be making a return appearance this year.
Each day riders will be able to hone a variety of skills including freestyle, wave riding, and racing. The pros will be on hand to help assess individual rider skills, give pointers for better riding, and put on demonstrations. The event staff will provide lunch to the participants at various locations along the coastline or the islands riders will pass along their route. The week-long event will culminate with an organized competition among all riders who choose to participate.
The cost of the event is €200 per person for registrations received prior to June 30; beginning July 1 the price is raised to €250. Cancellations prior to July 20 will receive a 50% refund while any cancellations after that date will be non-refundable. The fee includes event registration, lunch and drinks each day, an event number, souvenir T-shirt, and a contribution to help pay for the safety boat. All participants will be paying for their flights and accommodations separately.
Kiteival 2012 is just one of several different sporting events in Mauritius every year that aims to bring together amateurs and professionals. Promoters hold similar events for surfing, golf, and fishing as a means of promoting Mauritius and a stunning natural environment that makes an ideal spot for outdoor sports of all types. Even as these regular scheduled annual events go on this year tourism officials are working to bring even more to the island. Meanwhile, kite surfers who want to participate in this year's event are urged to get in touch with their tour operators as possible.
