Travel To Mauritius – With A Helping Hand From The Fashion World
The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority has stepped up its campaign to attract visitors from India, by teaming up with world-renowned fashion designer Ranna Gill during Lakmé Fashion Week in India. The Winter/Festive 2013 event saw the Delhi-based fashion designer make her debut with a couture collection inspired by the diverse blend of island cultures and the abundant natural beauty.
The minister of tourism, the Hon. Michael Sik Yuen commented on the unusual partnership of fashion design and tourism by saying that Mauritius is currently seeking to increase its' visitors from India, and by associating with Lakmé Fashion Week he hoped that a young and trendy generation would be encouraged to visit the tropical island for holidays. People within the fashion industry, he added, believe in health and beauty, and he hoped that the rejuvenating powers of Mauritius, as well as its long association with glamour and fashion, would appeal to this sector of Indian society.
Essence of Mauritius
Ranna Gill holds the reputation of being one of India's leading fashion designers, with her 'RANNA GILL' label being recognised globally. She likens fashion design to art and each of her designs follows a journey from the original concept to the finished product, travelling through various hues until it crystallises into the final creation. Although each design is very different, the underlying theme of this talented designer's work is to have an aesthetic and uncluttered appeal.
Ranna Gill believes in original work with a touch of unpredictability, and while every piece contains her defining symbols of technique, detailing, and quality, she likes to spread creative wings and aim for the unusual. Her Mauritius inspired 'Resort Collection' took inspiration from the island's jewelled colours, turquoise sea, and beautiful and natural scenery, with an infusion of local culture. Mauritius has long been a destination synonymous with luxury and opulence, and Ranna Gill's designer collection encapsulated these attributes with a stunning collection of couture clothing, which truly highlighted the essence of Mauritius.
Mauritius Tourism Promotion
The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority is currently channelling its resources into a marketing and promotion programme, designed to promote not only the island's natural attractions like sun, sea, and sand, but as a holistic destination offering leisure, entertainment, and health. By operating an array of destination marketing initiatives the MTPA has seen a significant increase in the in-flow of tourists from India, including honeymooners and both leisure and corporate travellers.
The MPTA hopes that this latest campaign to encourage travel to Mauritius will see a rise in visitors looking to improve their health while enjoying the natural beauty of the island, and will result in return visits when they realise how they have benefited from the therapeutic powers of the island paradise. The island has several resorts offering spa facilities including detoxification programmes and weight management programmes.
