2012 Shopping Fiesta In Mauritius Officially Opened

The first Shopping Fiesta to be held in Mauritius was officially opened last week by the minister for tourism in Mauritius Mr. Michael Sik Yuen. There were a number of Mauritian ministers present at the opening including the Mauritian Deputy Prime Minister HE Jean Luc Duval, Aimee and Von Malley and the Seychelles Minister for Tourism, Mr. Alain St. Ange. This event marks the fact that goods in Mauritius are now cheaper to buy than in the likes of Shanghai and Dubai. The main aim of the event is to get tourists spending more while on holiday in Mauritius. This is a challenging goal but the month long event is the first step towards encouraging holiday makers to part with their cash on the islands. The Fiesta will see a number of shopping centres offering attractive discounts and many airlines will also be offering extra checked in luggage allowances.

The Mauritius Shopping Fiesta is part of the Vanilla Islands Calendar of Events which includes the annual Carnaval International de Victoria which was co-hosted by La Reunion and Seychelles in 2012. Each of the six islands in the region are now supporting the events with La Reunion and Madagascar also putting an event forward. The Fiesta is yet another event which will bring all the islands closer together in terms of working in unity for the benefit of all the Vanilla islands.

The official opening was held in the Bagatelle Shopping Complex and saw a parade with dancers and drummers providing the entertainment. The parade was followed by a banquet dinner on the La Pirogue Hotel beach. There were a number of beauty queens also in attendance including the current Miss La Reunion, the current Miss England, Miss India, Miss Lebanon and the 2011/2012 Miss UK.

It is clear that the tourism industry in Mauritius is keen to spread the word about Mauritius to other parts of the world and by working closely with tourism industries in the other islands, this task should become easier. Mauritius is already a top holiday destination for those who want a luxury holiday abroad but economic troubles in some European destinations have had an impact on tourism revenue in many of the Indian Ocean islands. Working hard to promote the island is the best way for visitor numbers to be given a boost especially with many other markets opening up such as the Asian and Russian markets.

A holiday in Mauritius offers pure luxury for those who want to get away from their everyday lives. The weather in the Indian Ocean is almost perfect all year round so it is the ideal destination for those who want to spend hours relaxing in the warm sunshine. The beaches here are picture perfect and many of the resorts offer the ultimate in luxurious accommodation and amenities. Mauritius also has so much more to offer beyond the walls of the resort such as amazing shopping opportunities and fantastic places to explore.
