Chinese Couples Finding Mauritius A Great Wedding Destination

It is no secret that Mauritius has been targeting Chinese tourists along with their UK and US counterparts. Therefore, it is no surprise that 30 couples recently took to the island nation to enjoy a spectacular group wedding ceremony in the midst of the annual Mid-Autumn Festival. The festival is a Chinese tradition held in September every year.

The Mauritius Tourism Office joined forces with several Chinese partners to arrange the ceremony and subsequent celebration. They chose to name the event the 'Amazing Love Mauritius Wedding Trip'. In addition to a first-class ceremony in a romantic tropical setting, the 30 couples were also treated to a grand reception attended by Mauritius Tourism Minister Michael Sik Yuen, Chinese ambassador to Mauritius Li Li, and Wei Lisi, Miss International China 2014.

Yuen told the assembled crowd that tourism officials and private sector partners are working hard to ensure Mauritius remains 'the most romantic honeymoon destination' for couples looking for a unique wedding and honeymoon experience. It is obvious from his remarks that Yuen intends to continue aggressively competing with the other honeymoon player in the region, the Seychelles.

Mauritius and the Seychelles have long been engaged in a struggle for honeymoon destination dominance. The Seychelles is known more for its luxury setting, offering private honeymoon islands with exclusive villas and personal chefs. Mauritius offers luxury wedding packages as well, but they are also more likely to cater to couples and wedding parties on a budget. Regardless of which destination is chosen, both island nations have a lot to offer.
