Heritage Resorts Offering New Mauritius Holiday Package

According to Officials at Heritage Resorts, the tropical island of Mauritius has for too long been known simply as a "fly and flop" destination. They are out to change that perception and aim to do so by offering a new kind of holiday package designed to get guests away from the resorts during the day and into the unique national environment found on the island. Heritage will be concentrating on the Domaine de Bel Ombre region of southern Mauritius.

The program, which they have dubbed "Domaine de Bel Ombre Discovery", is a create-your-own experience in which guests have the opportunity to design their own itinerary based on a selected list of choices. Guests will choose destinations and activities from three categories, also referred to as Domaines: earth, air, and water.

The Earth Domaine features guided tours that show off the island's indigenous wildlife and plant life, the nearby mountains, and even one of the region's 18-hole golf courses. The Air Domaine option offers paragliding, parasailing, surfing, and even helicopter tours of the surrounding area. Finally, the Water Domaine option includes deep sea fishing, diving, snorkelling, glass bottom boat tours, whale and dolphin excursions, and a boat trip on the Citronnier River.

In addition to encouraging tourists to move beyond the resort environment, the new program also makes for great Mauritius family holidays . It is a way for parents and children to enjoy their holidays together, doing things all of them find fun and interesting, rather than having the kids split up in a separate day program while the parents are off doing their own thing. It's an opportunity to grow as a family, learn as a family, and become closer all the same time.

The Domaine de Bel Ombre Discovery project comes at a pivotal time for the Mauritian tourism industry. Last year arrivals were up between 7% and 8% for the calendar year. As of this past December Mauritian tourist officials were excited about the prospects of exceeding 1 million visitors in 2012. Yet those hopes have been somewhat dampened by the fact that the number of arrivals for January is down about 3% from the year before. Industry experts blame the slowdown on the European debt crisis which continues to persist. To try and make up for that, Mauritius is heavily targeting Asia and India in their marketing efforts.

Perhaps you have already visited Mauritius and enjoyed one of the island's wonderful luxury resorts. You might consider going back for another visit, but this time to participate in Heritage Resorts new holiday program. It is an opportunity to see the natural wonders of Mauritius you might not otherwise be aware of. There's still plenty of space left, so to be sure to call your tour operator today.
