Mauritius Lands Premier Poker Event

Golden sun, white sand, and turquoise blue waters; these are the things most of us attribute to the tropical paradise of Mauritius. But there's more to this Indian Ocean destination than just her gorgeous weather. There are also endless opportunities for water sports, hiking and biking, relaxing strolls, adventurous shopping, and more. And beginning in late February, there's even professional poker.

The World Poker Tour is set to make its way to Mauritius for what they hope to be the first in a long series of annual tournaments there. The WPT Mauritius is being hosted by the Grand Baie in Mauritius, running from February 25 March 4, and will be conducted at the resort's Ti Vegas casino. The sport's top players are expected to be there not only to compete for the top prize, but also to break up the time spent in the winter weather of Europe. Before heading to Mauritius the tour will spend time in Dublin and Vienna.

One of the unique aspects of the World Poker Tour is that you don't have to be a professional to play. The WPT Mauritius is a 17-event tournament with very reasonable buy-ins to accommodate most budgets. Anyone who can put up the cash for their share of the chips is welcome to play against other amateurs and the world's top professionals. It's interesting to note that many of today's best players got their start as professionals by entering open tournaments such as this one.

Landing the World Poker Tour event is a big win for the Mauritius tourism industry. Even though Mauritius still retains the top spot among Indian Ocean destinations, government officials and industry executives are not simply resting on that reputation alone. They are pursuing all sorts of events including professional golf, surfing, and anything else they can lure to the island. They know that the more of these events they can bring to Mauritius the more likely they are to attract visits from people who've never seen their beautiful country before. And there's a lot to see.

All inclusive Mauritius holidays are known around the world for being the height of luxury and relaxation. Few other destinations in the world can offer the same stunning beauty, peaceful tranquillity, and splendid resorts. Mauritius makes a perfect destination for family holidays, corporate getaways, romantic honeymoons, and of course...beach weddings. With plenty of sun, sand, and greenery, it's also the perfect escape for travellers looking to beat the winter blues.

If poker is your thing there is no better time than late February to take a Mauritius holiday. Contact your tour operator as soon as possible to book your travel to coincide with the WPT Mauritius. It's your chance to rub elbows with the stars while enjoying some great poker in a wonderful tropical environment.
