Mauritius Luxury Holidays - Mauritius Takes Promotion To Australia

Mauritius has taken its promotion efforts to Australia in a bid to boost the image of its Mauritius luxury holidays. As part of its push, the country is featuring a road show across multiple Australian cities with a delegation consisting of representatives from its tourism industry.

This is the first time the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) has decided to target Australia. Traditionally, it has worked on improving on the number of arrivals coming in from Europe, as well as in Asia. They are now deciding to target Australia because of its better economic stature.

Australian families have reasonably large incomes and are known for travelling abroad. Mauritius wants to take advantage of these travellers and bring them to their island for discount luxury holidays.

The goal of the road show is to connect with travel agents and the local media. They have brought a delegation from the MTPA and various local tour operators.

To increase overall visitor levels in this relatively untapped market for Mauritius, it has invited Australian wholesalers and Mauritius hoteliers to get in touch with each other. They want to establish new relationships and generate potential new leads for the country.

The delegation brought 10 local stakeholders from major hotels like Le Meridien, Sun Resorts, LUX Resorts, Sofitel, and Veranda Resorts. They will attend various workshops and, hopefully, yield results by forming provisional agreements with their Australian counterparts.

The show kicks off with the chance for businesses to connect with each other in Perth. In Perth, there is also a travel agent expo. This expo will focus on educating travel agents on the destination of Mauritius. It will highlight the beautiful climate and many of the natural wonders that attract tourists. It will also demonstrate the potential for investment in the country’s future.

A highlight of the Perth travel expo is a presentation by Dr Karl Mootoosamy, the Director of the MTPA. There’s also an engaging programme planned to feature local Mauritian food and entertainment.

After Perth, the MTPA delegation will move on to Sydney and Melbourne. This three-city road show will end with another chance for local businesses to meet representatives from the country and another travel agent expo.

In other news, Mauritius has launched its third weekly flight from the SSR International Airport to Perth. The official national carrier Air Mauritius will fly the route. This third weekly flight comes at a good time, as the road show will undoubtedly play on the increasing number of travel connections with Australia.

Observers say this is a wise move by Mauritius to target this area of the world. It is an area most of its competitors in the Indian Ocean region, such as the Maldives and the Seychelles, have yet to target.

In its bid to reach one million tourist arrivals in 2013, trade from Australia could prove the decisive factor.
