New Deal Between Mauritius And Botswana For Weekly Flights Between The Two Countries

Just last week the BASA (Bilateral Air Service Agreement) was signed by Mauritius and Chobe, Botswana which will see both local and international tourists being able to fly three times a week from Plaisance Airport in Mauritius to Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Botswana. The arrangement will see both Air Botswana and Air Mauritius offering the flights and means that tourists will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to watch the sun rise over the Okavango Delta and then be back on the white sandy beaches of Mauritius that evening to watch it set again.

While tourism is obviously the big winner here, there is also expected to be a significant boost to trade among the two countries which is great news as they are two of Africa’s best performing nations in terms of economy. It is believed that the flights are also going to cater for passengers who want to connect to the Asian and European markets.

It is not the first time that Mauritius and Botswana have created close ties. They have also cooperated with each other in terms of transport and health and just last year set up the Mauritius/Botswana Business Council. They have also agreed to look into areas where they share a common interest in the economy, trade and investment with a Cooperation Framework Agreement that was signed by both countries.

This is great news for tourists who plan to travel to Mauritius in the near future. It means that not only will they be able to spend some time on some of the most eye-popping beaches in the whole world; they will also get the chance to fly to the Chobe National Park to see the wetlands or go on a safari.
