Two-Year Ban On New Hotel Openings In Mauritius

The new Tourism Minister for Mauritius, Charles Gaetan Xavier Luc Duval, has introduced a moratorium on hotel openings in the island nation for the next two years in a bid to give existing properties ‘time to breathe’. The idea behind the two-year hold is to address the balance between the island’s supply and demand in terms of hotel accommodation. Tourism promotion officer Zeenat Gangee was speaking at World Travel Market and said, “We have had a new minister since the start of the year so for the past ten months, we have been working on a very customer-centric strategy to enhance the experiential side of tourism to our country.”

A Stunning Destination

The fact that there is a ban on new hotel openings in Mauritius for two years will be welcome news for many of the nation’s top resorts. The good news for tourists is that there are already many fabulous places to stay at this stunning destination.

Mauritius continues to be popular with holidaymakers from all over the world, and the country is one of the top honeymoon destinations globally. Many choose to spend their first holiday together as a married couple, relaxing on the pristine white sands of this Indian Ocean nation. With year-round warm weather and crystal clear tropical waters full of colourful marine life, it really is a superb destination for every type of holidaymaker.

Superb Resorts

The great thing about Mauritius is the fact that it has so many delightful resorts already. Luxury all-inclusive holidays are available at competitive prices and offer the tourist the chance just to chill out and relax in stunning surroundings while attentive staff treat them like royalty.

Many of the top resorts have numerous bars and restaurants at which guests can enjoy fine dining and mouth-watering cocktails as well as private spas offering a choice of relaxation and beauty treatments.

Spending the day relaxing by the pool or on the beach is often all anyone does when heading to this laid-back part of the world. For those that fancy something a bit more adventurous, though, there are plenty of activities and excursions available.

Outside the Resorts

Most resorts offer guests the chance to enjoy a number of outings that allow them to see more of Mauritius and what it has to offer. It is important to remember that Mauritius is more than just five-star resorts and sparkling white beaches.

There is plenty to do beyond the resorts, and those that venture outside get to see the real Mauritius. It is a country that has museums, stunning waterfalls, lush green jungles, and beautiful buildings that are all well worth visiting. There is also a fabulous aquarium and a number of animal parks where guests can see some magnificent creatures.
