Uk Travel To Mauritius On The Rise Again

It wasn't too long ago that some in the Mauritian tourism industry were angry with the MTPA after the agency decided to use Miss England as the UK tourism ambassador rather than Miss Mauritius. However, perhaps MTPA CEO Karl Mootoosamy made the right decision. The number of arrivals from the UK is up thus far this year.

Since January 1st, the number of UK arrivals has been approximately 8.1% higher than the previous year, for a total of more than 39,400 tourists. As a matter of comparison, arrivals from France have dropped a little more than 4%. Tourism officials say that current numbers indicate the island nation could see 100,000 Britons or more before the year is out. They remind the travel media that peak tourist season begins in early October and runs through the end of March.

At its high point in 2008, the British market supplied Mauritius with more than 132,500 tourists. That number fell to an all-time low of 87,600 in 2012. Part of the decline was the economic crisis, but the murder of Ireland's Micaela Harte also had a negative impact that Mauritius has been trying hard to overcome ever since.

Selecting Miss England as the UK ambassador for Mauritius travel was a big part of overcoming the negativity. Moreover, although she has not been on the job all that long, there is great hope that Miss England's efforts will pay off in a big way. We will have to wait and see what happens the rest of the year.

Great Deals Available Now

As we mentioned previously, the peak season in Mauritius begins in October. That means great packages are available throughout the summer months. Now is an excellent opportunity to find Mauritius last minute deals that are still budget friendly for both families and couples. It is not too late to plan your Mauritius holiday while things are relatively quiet in the Indian Ocean region.

Mauritius offers plenty of options, ranging from the most expensive luxury resorts to budget friendly accommodations. The best thing is that there is no such thing as a bad location in Mauritius. The size of the island, combined with its transportation system, makes everything easily accessible no matter where you are staying. You can go shopping in the north, hit the mountains and trekking trails in the centre of the island, and enjoy amazing white sand beaches along the coast. Mauritius is a true paradise that has to be experienced to be understood.
